Gray Whale Cove State Beach, California. A Stunning Sunset Proposal (& Surprise Party!)

Charlie & Jess had hands down one of the most epic proposals I have ever photographed! Someone get this man a beer because he absolutely deserved it.

The cloud had rolled in HEAVY in SF but as I drove down the coast line, the clouds cleared, the sun came out and knew it was such a beautiful sign. As a photographer, most of my sessions don’t require being incognito but the thrill of proposals never gets old. I know I have to keep my ‘ish together but I almost cry every single time.

Charlie wanted to propose to Jess at Gray Whale Cove State Beach because when he and Jess visited once prior he said that she mentioned it was the perfect place to get engaged. And he remembered! Again, like I said, get this man a freaking beer. He and Jess (and their adorable dog Ruby) got dressed up to attend a “birthday dinner” and decided to visit the beach because they got there “early.” Little did Jess know, other people had gotten there earlier - and it wasn’t just me!

Not only did Charlie have the perfect ruse to get Jess to come back to this stunning beach but he planned an ENTIRE beach party to celebrate. Charlie’s family flew in from the UK and Jess’s whole family and friend group. It was truly something to remember and I’m so honored to have been a part of their special day. The look on her face said it all. Nothing like being surprised by all the people you love!
